Following Thursday’s performance of “Movin’ Out,” patrons joined executive director Nicki Clarke to reflect on the show and process their experience. A great discussion emerged that we would like to continue with all of our patrons online.
Shawn Powers, director of education, asks for your response to the following question: “The final reunion scenes of the show were described by some as an abrupt change from what had preceded. The costumes, lighting, and tone were much lighter in comparison. Some patrons spoke of the reunion scenes in terms of redemption, forgiveness and perseverance. Others were drawn away by the stark difference. Did those reunion scenes work for you or not? Why, or why not?”

I've got to say that the music was exceptional and that for what it was, ballet and modern dance with no dialogue what so ever, it probably hit the mark for some.
For myself and a few others that walked out at intemission, I'd like to say that it was a blatant case of misrepresentation in advertizing that will not hook me again. Too many times I have patronized you at the Capitol Center by choosing one of your productions based upon the promotional write up, only to find that I'd been duped into another non verbal, artsy fartsy waste of my time. No recognizable plot, not a hint of real story line, no dialogue, no singing by "actors", nothing I could possibly be roped into attending if I knew what was in store.
Hey Capitol Center. When your hit ratio is 3 bad out of five, year out of year, sooner or later I've got to say, "you've lost a patron". Shame on you. Never again.
